Temperature in the low 80s

A long day with an 8AM departure and a 10PM arrival back in Ferrara.  We had three hard times to make, reservations for the Uffizi Museum, The Academia Gallery, and our train ride home.  We hit all our deadlines and covered many miles taking much, but certainly not all there is to see in Florence.  Both Dolly and I have been here before, so it was kind of a refresher for us.  We were surprised at how crowded it was for what is supposed to shoulder season.  The lines, even with reserved entry times, were long and the galleries crowded.

After the Uffizi we had a light lunch and went off to the Academia.  Neither of us had ever been to the gallery on the second floor before.  There was a video on how artists prepared the wood used in altar pieces that make up so much of the art we saw Tuesday.

We also stopped at the Medici Museum.  That had costumes of the era and some interesting artifacts.  We stayed there for an hour watching a video that traced family genealogy.  Not that it was all that good, but it was in an air-conditioned room.

Next was a walk to Ponte Vecchio and then on to the Bardini Garden for a sunset shot of Florence.  The bridge, like everywhere else, was packed and the idea of a sunset picture of Florence was far from original.

The plan was for lasagna at Buco Maria, a restaurant recommended by Kyra and Stacy.  I had not made reservations, and the host apologetically told us he could not accommodate us.  So, we stopped at one of the many other cafes and had a great meal of pasta and salad. Oh, and wine too!!.

A short walk to the train station and nearly empty train ride to Ferrara ended the day.

Besides missing the lasagna, the other shortfall was the maid turned off our A/C.  Room was pretty warm.  Hopefully those are the worse things that happen as we continue our trip,
