Reykjavik, Iceland
Enroute to Turino, IT via Milan
Mid 50s and Cloudy in Reykjavik
Clear and 90!!! In Milan and Turino
Our last full day in Iceland was tours of an archaeological museum and a life-size display of whales. The former was built on the actual sight and included the stone foundation of a long house. These were the traditional homes in during the first days on human occupation in Iceland. The vegetation was different from today. Much of the land was covered by birch forests. They were able to date the age of the house, 812AD by the layer of volcanic ash. The museum laid out in chronological order went on through to modern day. To include a vignettes of life at various points in time.
The second stop was a commercial site, but interesting with lifetime fiberglass models of various whale species and an audio guide with facts about each. BTW- Whale meat is available in some Iceland restaurants.
Our trip to Torino started at 04:30 AM and included two bus rides, a flight, two trains and a taxi to the hotel. All went as planned, EXCEPT- Dolly’s suitcase suffered a collapsed wheel and did not roll smoothly on three. We filed a claim before leaving the airport that delayed our arrival at the hotel but met our fellow tourists while they finished dinner. The staff brought ours and remained about a course or two behind.
There are only six of us, a couple from Napa Valley, a woman from New York with a home in New Orleans and a man from Morgan Hill, CA. Our guides are a professor who teaches in Rome and an Italian woman from Rome. It should be a great group experience.

About the same price in the US. $3.71
